The neursurgery team we work with also performs other types of surgery which are often not available in your home country, such as microvascular decompression (MVD) (of the trigeminal or vestibular nerves). Do not hesitate to enquire for particular surgery. Length of stay for a microvascular decompression in the hospital is 7 days. Pre-operative tests (X-rays, blood tests, etc., depending on the information supplied at enquiry or admission time) and examinations by the surgeon typically take place on the day before surgery. X-rays, CT or MRI scans and/or photographs are always be very useful when assessing your case and determining the exact surgery required. Please send us, if possible, copies of scans on CD's or digital pictures of X-rays with you enquiry. Neurosurgery takes place in the A.Z. Sint-Lucas hospital in Ghent. Patients are usuallty admitted around noon on the day before surgery. Discharge is around 2:00 pm. The Belgian hospital has a couple of guest rooms available for relatives (see "general information"). Please send us an enquiry to obtain a preliminary price estimate for the surgery of your choice. MRI scans can be organised separately or, in order to save on transportation and handling costs, or on the day before surgery. Please indicate your preference in the enquiry. |
